Longsheng town, which is a small town of 160,000, locates between 109 32' - 100 14' north latitude and 25 35' - 26 17' east longitude, in the northeastern part of Guangxi. Longsheng is densely covered with forests with a forestation rate of 76% and a forestation level of 94%. Surrounded by mountains on all four sides, you will find a mixture of Zhuang, Yao, Miao and Dong ethnicities in this town. However the town is definitely not the main attraction of Longsheng. To really experience the beauty of this area, you must get out into the hills and explore the rice terraces and the minority villages set amongst them. 
Longsheng is famous at home and abroad for its strange stones, beautiful rivers and the custom of the minority. The Dragon's Backbone Rice Terraces, found 23 kilometres out of Longsheng, are definitely the most famous rice terraces in China. Covering an area of 66 square kilometers, these rice terraces were first built in the Yuan dynasty and completed in the Qing dynasty by Zhuang people, making them over 700 years old. The terraced fields are built along the mountain slopes winding from the riverside right up to the peaks, reaching elevations of up to 885m. The views from the tops of these peaks are just superb. While an hour or two is all that is needed to see the designated viewpoints, longer hikes are certainly well worth the effort.
Except for the beautiful scenery, Longsheng is also famous for its culture. Since it is home to four different ethnic minorities, you have the opportunity to see firsthand the rich variety of customs in this district. The most visible cultural differences are perhaps the costumes worn by the local women. In Dazhai, see the embroidered pink costumes, the heavy, silver earrings, and the extremely long hair of the Yao women. In Ping'an, you will notice the Zhuang women wearing white shirts, black pants, and brightly coloured towels on their heads. As you look out at the vast mountain panoramas, it is a real spectacle to see women dressed in such finery working the fields.
There are many local products in Longsheng. The visitors can pick up national handicrafts silver jewelry and the ethical figured satchel and local produce they like. And the Longji Tea, Longji Chile pepper, Longji rice wine are also welcomed by visitors both domestic and abroad.
