Two hydropower stations, Laohuzui Hydropower Station and Xueka Hydropower Station start construction in the trunk stream of Ba River in Gongbo Gyamda County of eastern Tibet's Nyingchi Prefecture.
As a key project of the 11th-Five-Year-Plan period, Laohuzui Hydropower Station has started its preparation work and the total investment is 1,288 million yuan (about 161.25 million US dollars). As planned, the river will be closed at the end of December and the equipment will start generating electricity in 2010 after four years construction. The station will have a capacity of 102,000 kilowatt with a yearly electricity amount of 495.5 million degrees. The highest dam will be 84 meters.
With a total investment of 722.6 million yuan (about 90.325 million US dollars), another hydropower station, Xueka Hydropower Station is expected to start generating electricity at the end of August, 2008 with a total generating amount of 40,000 kilowatt.
