Road to Qomolangma Base Camp from the Tingri County in Xigaze will be blacktoped to ensure the 2008 Olympic torch relay to the Qomolangma in May 2008.

It is the only path for Qomolangma mountaineering, tour and expedition from Tingri to the Qomolangma Base Camp with a total distance of 108 kilometers.

With an expected investment of 150 million yuan (about 18.75 million US dollars), the blacktop road from Tingri to Qomolangma Base Camp will achieve the 4th level road standard with two lanes. The environmental protection road will be shielded with flexible wave-style fence
