New flights to link Tibet with cities
LHASA - Tibet Airlines will launch three regular flights linking cities in the plateau region of Tibet with other Chinese cities this week in a move to meet the growing market demand, a company spokesman said Tuesday.
Of the new air routes, the Chengdu-Nyingchi flight will open Wednesday and be operated every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, the Lhasa-Nyingchi flight will open Thursday and be operated every Monday and Thursday, and the Chongqing-Nyingchi flight will open Thursday and be operated every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, the spokesman said.
Lhasa is the capital of southwest China's Tibet autonomous region, and Nyingchi is a major prefecture in the plateau region and is renowned for its beautiful scenery.
"The new air route will not only facilitate travel for passengers in Chongqing and Chengdu, but it will also help boost the tourism market in Tibet," said Huang Lihua, general manager of the Tibet Tourism Company.
