Buddha painting unveiled in Lhasa

As a traditional religious and folklore celebration, the Shoton Festival is one of the most important festivals on the Tibetan calendar, which falls on August 17 to 23 this year.
Grand ceremonies to unfold the painting of Buddha are held in monasteries in Lhasa, capital of southwest China's Tibet, on August 17, marking the beginning of Shoton Festival of year 2012.
The festival is celebrated by both Buddhist community and the public, in which the major monasteries will unveil the painting of Buddha on a nearby mountain slope for devotees to pay homage.
