Saving work of pattra leaf scriptures in Tibet
Pattra-leaf scriptures is the scriptures written on tala tree leaves,from ancient India.Before papermaking technology spreads to India,Indian people write something with tala tree leaves.The buddhist paints figure of Buddha also on this kind of leaves.That is where the name of Pattra-leaf scriptures comes from.
Pattra-leaf scriptures has a history of more than two thousand and five hundred years,it is written in two languages,some of them are acupunctured.It is the important original materials of researching ancient Tibetan culture, language ,Buddhism and religious art.
With a decade’s work behind them, experts have come a long way to protect these ancient Buddhist scriptures. For example,the sixty-seven-year-old Ciwang Junmei and his team have been trekking across Tibet to search for the pattra leaf scriptures for the past six years.Ciwang Junmei said, "Most of the roads we’ve been on are difficult to walk along, especially to some abandoned monasteries. So far, we’ve been to more than eighty and covered about 17, 000 km."
At present,Tibet has the largest collection of pattra leaf scriptures. But finding them is far from a smooth ride.
