The Tibetan Losar attracts tourists

For tourists, Losar is a grand feast and also is the grandest traditional festival for Tibetans, it lasts from the first day to the fifteenth day in the first month of Tibetan calendar. The "Water Snake Losar"of Tibetan calendar falls on Feb.11, 2013, and it is just a day later than the lunar new year.


In losar, the Festal customs such as praying, horse racing, greeting relatives and friends and plowing are all worth experiencing.


Accompanying the Tibetan Water Snake Losar, the winter tourism in Tibet gets warming up. Many tourists spend the winter holiday in Lhasa to enjoy the traditional Tibetan Losar celebration custom and the sunlight on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.


During the festival, the family's best carpets and finest silver are brought out. The Eight Auspicious Symbols, which appear as protective motifs throughout Tibetan-populated areas, are painted in strategic locations.


Butter lamps are lit. Flowers are placed on altars. Piles of juniper, cedar, rhododendron, and other fragrant branches are prepared for burning as incense.


Various kinds of folk activities, such as Gorchom circle dance, Tibetan opera, horsemanship, and folk sports are performed, full of New Year flavor.
