Buddha statue woven by bamboo is a oustanding workmanship of Dai folk custom in Yunnan province. And the Buddha statue woven by bamboo have a history about 700 years and it originates from 1338 A.D.
There is a legend of it is said that the Dai people live in a place called Mengnongba, and the Mengnongba have a Mangang Temple which is has 163 monks and the leader of the temple is Master Pama Guluba Lianda. One day the master have a dream that is about a person ask a question to the Master:" there are so many buddha statues made of gold, silver, bronze, stone, wood and soil, why don't have a state made of bamboo? Hope you could weave a bamboo buddha statue for bringing the happiness to people." When the Master Pama wake up, he begins to weave the status 3 days and nights, and bamboo buddha comes out. How interesting and mythological story!
