Lhasa-Nepal border Overland 7-day Tour

Meet at Chengdu airport in the morning. Fly to Lhasa. Arriving at Lhasa Gongar airport(3600m), meet local guide and transferred to Lhasa city. Check in and have a good rest, overnight in Lhasa.
 
Day 2 Lhasa one day tour 
Place & Transport: Lhasa
Today's Activities: Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Barkhore Street

Tour starts from the religious Potala Palace(3700 m ) (1.5 hours )built in the 7th century by the famous Tibetan king-Songtzen Gampo. The present one was built by the 5th Dalai Lama in the 17th century. It became known as the "Winter Palace" by the 1750, when the 7th Dalai Lama built the Norbulingka Park as his summer residence. After lunch, you will visit Jokhang Temple(1 hour ), situated in the old section of Lhasa. King Songtzen Gampo built this temple in the mid-7th century A.D. Now it is the most sacred place in Tibet. Pilgrims come here to pay homage from all over Tibet. Visit Barkhore Street in the evening.

Day 3 Lhasa one day tour

Today's Activities: Drepung Monastery, Norbulingka

Full day sightseeing takes you to Drepung Monastery.(3 hours ) "Drepung" in Tibetan means the hill of rice because this white Monastery looks like a big hill of rice. This monastery occupies an area of 150,000 square meters with 7700 lamas and becomes the largest monastery in Asia. After that, you will visit Norbulingka Park(3 hours ). In 1752, the 7th Dalai Lama built the first palace here for successive Dalai Lamas to carry out their political and religious activities during the summer season. Today Norbulingka has become a public park for picnicking, relaxing and entertainment. 

Day 4 Lhasa- Gyantse- Shigatse  (7 hours driving) 
Place & Transport: Lhasa- Gyantse- Shigatse
Today's Activities: Yamdrok, Pelkor Monastery, Pala Manor, the splendid Kumbum Stupa

In the morning drive to Gyantse along the Kyichu River. One the way , have a fantastic view of the holy Lake Yamdrok (4441 m) and karola glacier. In the afternoon visit Pelkor Monastery, Pala Manor as well as the splendid Kumbum Stupa (100-Thousand-Buddha Pagoda) nearby in Gyantse(3980 m ). Then drive to Shigatse(3840 m ), stay overnight in Shigatse.

Day 5 Shigatse-Shegar-Old Tingri-Rongphu Monastery-E.B.C  (6-7 hours driving )
Place & Transport: Shigatse- Shegar- Old Tingri- Rongphu Monastery- E.B.C
Today's Activities: Tashilunpo Monastery,Rongbu Monastery, Mt. Everest

Early morning visit Tashilunpo Monastery and then  drive to Rongphu(5154m) via Lhatse and Shegar, cross over Gyatsola & Pangla Pass, where you will see the Himalaya mountain ranges in a clear day.

Rongphu is the highest monastery in Tibet, still a good point to see Mt.Everest. Afternoon start trekking from Rongphu to E.B.C. Overnight at Rongphu guest house. (dorm beds)

Day 6 Rongbu Monastery- Gyirong Twon 
Today's Activities: Rongbu Monastery, Mt. Everest

In the morning drive from Rongbuk, which is the highest temple in the world. If you are luck enough, you can see sunrise in E.B.C. Then drive to Tongla pass to see the panoramic view of Himalaya mountian range. Then reach Gyirong twon(2600m) in late afternoon and stay over night. 

Day 7 Exit China from Gyirong border 

Today's Activities: End the trip

You will be sent to new tourist border-Gyirong by your driver and guide, help you clear the border. End the tour in Tibet part.

If you need to book an overland transfer from border to Kathmandu, please make reservation in advance .

Note: Enter Nepal from Gyirong border, you only need the arriving visa. The port begins to release people at 10:00 am in the morning.  It is about 160km from Gyirong border to Kathmandu and 6-7 hours' driving.
