The Former Residence of Lei Lu

Lei Lutai is the originator of the earliest draft bank in China, the Rishengchang Draft Bank in the ancient city of Pingyao. His former residence, built about 180 years ago, in the reign of Emperor Daoguang of the Qing Dynasty (1616 - 1911), is the only civilian residence open to the public as a scenic site thanks to its historical, financial management's and architectural referential value and so on.

The former residence combines the traditional architectural art with the former owner's innovational ideas. Not only is it built grandly but also has rich cultural connotation. You can feel the spirit of the financial leading authority of the times,  Lei lu tai, that he devised strategies within a command tent and determined the victory far away on seeing the magnificent and meaningful Jinyuan Building, the principal building of the courtyard.

Lei Lutai's former residence is a valuable heritage in researching Chinese financial development history and architecture history.
