Junba Village

There are many rivers in Tibet and the fish resources are very rich. But due to the religion, most Tibetans doesn’t eat fish, therefore, the fishing industry in Tibet is not very developed. But there is an exception. 40 kilometers away from Lhasa, people who live in Junba Village downstream of Lhasa River not only eat fish, but also live on fishing from generations to generations. Junba is the only fishing village in Tibet.
There are 82 families living in Junba village, with 371 people. Every family would have a yak leather boat if there is a man in the family, as it’s mainly man’s work to do fishing. There are more than 60 leather boats. People use them for transportation and production tools.
