- The New Palace of Panchen
The New Palace of Panchen is one of the best known tourist attractions in Shigatse, Tibetan Autonomous Region. It locates in south of the Tashilhupo Monastery and also famed by the residence of the Panchen and summer palace of the tenth Panchen Lama (1938-1989). In 1954, the government donated money to build this it.
- Pala Manor
Pala Manor is 10mins drive from Gyangtse. Pala, the former owner of the Manor, used to be an emirate for a tribe in Bhutan. He moved to Tibet and became a local officer during the civil war in Bhutan. At the time of the Tibet Democratic Reform in 1959 he left Tibet along with Dalai Lama to live in exile.
- Phuntsoling Monastery
Phuntsoling Monastery is located in Lhaze county in Shigatse area. The altitude is 4100m. It was built in 1614 with the support of Gtsang-pa.
- Shalu Monastery
Shalu' means 'new bud' in Tibetan Language. According to the legend, its founding involves Chetsun and his teacher. His teacher suggested that Chetsun shoot an arrow, and found a monastery where the arrow hit. The flying arrow hit a new bud, hence the monastery¡¯s name.
- Peiku-tso Lake-The biggest lake in Shigatse Area
Lake Paiku may not be as famous as the Heavenly Lake Namtso , Lake Manasarova or Yamdrok Yumtso Lake , but the adjacent Mount Xixabanma and the Yarlong Tsangpo River endow a certain magnificence upon the lake.
- Karuola Glacier
Karuola Glacier is about 71 kilometers (about 44 miles) from Gyangtse County. You can even see this amazing glacier from the road beside it. Karuola Glacier is about 5,600 meters north of the main peak of Karuola Mountain.
- Yamdroktso Lake
On the old road between Gyantse (4040m) and Lhasa, the dazzling Yamdroktso (4441m) can be seen from the summit of the Kamba-la pass (5030m ).
- Rongbuk Monastery
Rongbuk monastery lies by the foot of the Rongbuk Glacier at 5,100 metres (17,000 ft) above sea level, it is the highest monastery in the world. It is only 200 metres (660 ft) lower than the north side Everest Base Camp of Mount Everest.
- Pelkor Chode Monastery
Founded in 1418, the red-walled Pelkor Chode Monastery was once a compound of 15 monasteries that brought together three different orders of Tibetan Buddhism - a rare instance of multidenominational tolerance.
- Zhangmu Town
Also known as Kasa, Zhangmu perches on a mountainside 10km (6 miles) inland from the China-Nepal Friendship hwy Bridge across the Bhotekoshi River (Sun Kosi River).
- Kamba Castle
An ancient earth/brick castle, it is located to the northeast of Kamba County seat and was a defensive point of the Kamba tribe.
- Mt. Everest
The Tibetan name for Mt. Everest is "Mt. Qomolangma" which literally means "The Third Goddess". Located in bordering areas with Nepal in Tingri County, it is 8,848.13 meters high, the tallest mountain in the world.
- Sakya Monastery
The monastery was built in 1073 and has more than 900 years of history. It is considered as the 'Second Danhuang'. The monastery houses around 3000 pieces of sutras and precious work of art that are over thousand years old.
- Tashilhunpo Monastery
The Tashilhunpo Monastery is located at the foot of the Niseri Mountain to the south of Shigatse City in the Tibet Autonomous Region. It is another must-to-see for Tibet travelling or China-Nepal Hwy tour.The monastery is one of the six great Gelugpa institutions.
- Gyantse Dzong
The Gyantse Dzong is Gyantse's town fort sitting upon a hill just north of Gyantse town on China-Nepal Hwy. Wherever you are in Gyantse, the Dzong can be seen. However, the fort lies abandoned today and many of its interior walls and buildings are in disrepair.
